Measure the Human Skills That Drive Leadership Effectiveness
The Social Agility Index® is a research-backed leadership assessment designed in collaboration with Swinburne University’s CXI Research Group.
Since 2019, the Social Agility Index® has measured the social, emotional and behavioural capabilities that underpin effective leadership, including the social intelligence required to build trust, influence others and navigate complex workplace relationships of more than 1,500 leaders across Australia.
As technology becomes more capable, human capability becomes more valuable. The ability to build trust, influence others, navigate complexity and adapt to change is what increasingly separates effective leaders from the rest.
The Social Agility Index® is an ongoing longitudinal survey and performance metric. It measures the human effectiveness of leaders, teams, organisations and industry sectors. Over time it provides a detailed picture of human skills effectiveness of leaders in the global workforce.
The Social Agility Index® is a research backed leadership assessment tool comprising a simple and easy to complete online survey, which explores 10 key dimensions of your human skills effectiveness as a leader. The 10 dimensions are scored to give you a picture of your current leadership performance.
Organisations use the Social Agility Index® to identify capability strengths, benchmark leadership cohorts and inform leadership development investment decisions.
What are Human Skills?
Human skills are the social, emotional and behavioural capabilities that enable leaders to build trust, influence others, navigate complexity and create high-performing teams.
The Social Agility Index measures these capabilities across ten dimensions of leadership effectiveness. Together, these dimensions provide a practical picture of how leaders build trust, respond to change and create positive outcomes through others.
Why Human Skills Matter?
Technical expertise may earn a leadership role. Human skills determine leadership effectiveness.
Our research shows that leaders who build trust, demonstrate adaptability and create psychological safety are better equipped to navigate change, influence stakeholders and deliver sustainable performance.

What 1,500+ Leaders Are Teaching Us About Human Skills
Since 2019, the Social Agility Index® has provided a unique view into the human skills that shape leadership effectiveness. The insights below represent only a small part of what we continue to learn through our ongoing research.
While every leader’s journey is different, several themes consistently emerge across the Social Agility Index®.
Leaders are naturally adaptable. Most leaders believe there are multiple pathways to solving complex challenges and demonstrate a willingness to explore new ideas and perspectives.
Human connection remains central to leadership. High-performing leaders consistently prioritise listening, collaboration and creating opportunities for others to contribute.
Confidence is often more fragile than it appears. While leaders demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities, many continue to experience self-doubt when faced with setbacks, criticism or challenging feedback.
Leadership is deeply human. As leaders progress into broader and more complex roles, technical expertise becomes less important than their ability to build trust, navigate uncertainty, influence others and create environments where people can thrive.
These insights represent only a small part of what we continue to learn through the Social Agility Index®. Our ongoing research helps organisations understand leadership capability, identify development opportunities and build stronger leadership cultures.
